Since many weeds grow on the soil bed, cutting off sunlight will help reduce their numbers. After laying newspaper, mulch is put over it. This will ensure even less sunlight will reach the weeds. Controlling weeds by blocking the sunlight is the best way to keep weeds from returning year after year.

Even though mulch has been placed in the garden area, some weeds are very tough and will grow regardless of whether there is enough sunlight. These weed will need to be removed using a chemical weed remover. This is an effective way to control weeds after they have invaded a garden. Spray a small amount around the weed base. They will begin to disappear in a few days. Usually another application is necessary in order to stop the control weeds and how they spread. Be careful not to get the chemical on the plants that are to be kept in the garden. Controlling weeds using chemicals can take time but is worth the effort.
